A small sampling from An Artful Life, a book celebrating the career of Barbara Nessim for her retrospective at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Here, I was mindful that this was Barbara's story, not mine. The written story, the visual story, and the design incorporating both had to work together, with Barbara's art most prominent.
Her work received both commercial and art world acclaim, so it made sense for the book spreads to have an art meets fashion (with a-touch-of-business-magazine) editorial feel.
One final qualification. The overall visual tone had to respect, and reflect, the serious analysis, and intellectual standing of the contributing writers, including: Roger Black, Milton Glaser, Steven Heller, Gloria Steinem.
